Job Details:
This position begins in April 2019 and last through September 2019. The hours fluctuate between 20 to 40 per week, up to five days per week. Weekend shifts will be mandatory.
 
Primary duties include:

  • Opening and closing fee collection booths.
  • Setting up and taking down equipment.
  • Greeting and assisting park patrons with picnic shelter reservations and park use permits.
  • Collecting cash payments and making change.
  • Maintaining a knowledge of events and operating within the parks.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following qualifications:
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with park staff, visitors, and a wide variety of diverse community groups.
  • Experience in customer service and cash handling.
  • Must be able to commit to the duration of the position and required weekend shifts.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screen is required.

Invasive Species Field Workers, Seasonal
Location: Vancouver, WA
Salary: $15.00 per hour

 
Job Details:
This position begins Mid-March and April. This duration of this assignment is 8 to 9 months. This opportunity is full-time hours (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday.
 
Job Summary:
Responsibilities include assisting with inspection of county public and private lands to detect noxious weed infestations and provide control of those species. This position includes collection, mapping, and maintaining data on noxious weed infestations using GPS, iPad with Collector, Survey 123, and a combination of herbicide application. Employees will be working in all weather conditions. These positions involve working within an environment with exposure to chemicals, pollen, insects, water and bees.
 
Key Task and Responsibilities:
  •  Assist in survey and control of noxious weeds and ensure compliance with State regulations.
  • Prepare reports of weed infestations as identified through inspections.
  • Apply herbicide and operate equipment such as GPS, watercraft, backpack sprayers, ATV and machetes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Vegetation Management Field Inspector or Lead Coordinator.
 Qualifications: 
  • Experience in plant identification (native and ornamental).
  • Ability to stand and walk for 8-10 hour shifts.
  • Must be able to carry a 40 lb. backpack sprayer of herbicide mix.
  • Must be comfortable working in a remote setting.
  • Possession of a current Washington State Herbicide Applicator's license or the ability to obtain one within thirty days.
  • Restoration planting and landscape maintenance experience preferred.
  • ATV and kayak experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft office programs/ArcGIS experience is helpful.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance, and a clean driving record from the past 3 years.

Ground Maintenance/Landscaper
Location: Vancouver, WA
Salary: $15.00

 
Job Details:  
This position begins This is a seasonal opportunity that expected to at least last 6 months. Position expected to start at the end of February. The hours for this position are:
 
Wednesday - Sunday from 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Friday - Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
 
Job Summary:
This is semi-skilled physical labor requiring the ability to use and operate various tools, vehicles and equipment to maintain turf, plants, shrubs, and ground covers throughout County parks, facilities and right of ways. A variety of equipment is used in the maintenance of the sport fields and outlying areas, e.g., riding mowers, 30” and 21” walk-behind mowers, edgers, stripper machines, sweepers and backpack blowers. Some hedge-trimming (based on ability).
 
Key Responsible:
  • Ball field setup for baseball, soccer and other sports on natural and artificial turf fields.
  • Litter pickup and restroom cleaning on a daily basis.
  • General grounds maintenance on sports fields as well as other turf areas and shrub beds throughout park including the natural forested area. 
Qualifications:
  • Experience involving parks or grounds maintenance; landscape construction and/or maintenance or any other labor-intensive work experience that directly involves the skills required to operate machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles or equipment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain at time of hire a valid motor vehicles operator’s license.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check

Flagger, Seasonal

Job Details:
This position begins in April 2019. This is a seasonal opportunity that is expected to last through October 2019. This opportunity is full time hours (40 hours), Monday through Friday.
 
Job Duties:
  • Performs traffic control and flagging activities as needed
  • Follows safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Perform ground maintenance duties 
Qualifications:
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a Flagger Certification or Willing to take one day certification class for Flagger Certification
  • Must Successfully pass a background and drug screen

Forensic Interviewer, Temporary
Location: Vancover, WA
Salary: $28.35


Job details:
This position is part-time - 1 to 2 days per week. The duration of this assignment is February 19, 2019 through April 30, 2019.
 
Job Description:
  • This team is responsible for a comprehensive response to incidents of suspected felony-level child abuse throughout the County.
  • The forensic interviewer’s main role is to provide interviews of children in a timely, neutral and legally-defensible manner utilizing their expertise in child abuse to help the team identify children’s special needs or approach each child in a consistent and sensitive manner to lessen the possibility of secondary trauma through the course of the interview.
  • As the forensic interviewer on the response team, occasional appearances in court will be necessary to inform the court about the interview process or to clarify specifics about the interview.
  • Other duties include convening Peer Review forums, reporting and projects related to this Program Coordinator role. 
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work or other related field is desirable; a minimum five years of direct experience working with children and families is required.
  • Formal training in forensic interviewing completed within the last five (5) years through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center is required.
  • A basic understanding and experience working with other professional disciplines whose work involves the criminal justice system is required.
  • Understanding basic child development, children with special needs and the ramifications of child abuse is essential. All combinations of education, experience and training that demonstrate the ability to perform the work will be considered. 
The ideal candidate will have the following strengths:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with forensic interviewing of children and fact finding within a legal framework
  • Understanding and experience with maintaining a neutral position and fact-finding role within a legal framework

  • Demonstrated success working within a collaborative setting

  • Facilitation and coordination within a professional team framework
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Code Enforcement Officer, Temporary
Location: Vancouver, WA
Salary: $27.39 per hour
 
Job Summary:
The Code Enforcement Section is a complaint-driven program focused on the firm but fair enforcement of the County’s building codes, land use and zoning laws, Solid Waste Ordinance, and others. The purpose of the program is to provide code enforcement education, resolution and enforcement services, to those who live, work, visit, and do business in the County, so that they can experience a safe, healthy, livable and prosperous community.
 
Job Specific Duties:
  • Responds in a courteous manner to public inquiries and complaints about building, zoning, land use, and nuisance code violations; determines whether properties are in compliance, and provides information to help property owners and occupants successfully correct any violations before enforcement action is necessary.
  • Performs field inspections to identify code violations; assists citizens by explaining County codes, regulations and requirements, and offers advice on how to achieve compliance.
  • Communicates with a diverse range of people many of who may be unfamiliar with the County’s property maintenance standards and building and land use requirements
  • Interviews complainants and witnesses.
  • Prepares case documentation; detailed written reports, researches owner records, legal descriptions and approved uses of property.
  • Takes photographs of violations and documents activities using a computer; effectively and accurately conveys observations to confirm alleged violations.
  • Performs follow-up inspections and documentation.
  • Enforcement could include issuing correction notices; stop work orders, citations, Notice and Orders, and lien letters.
  • Coordinates and conducts field inspections with other departments and agencies to determine course of compliance action when multiple violations exist.
  • Documents conversations with respondents, related actions and notices.
  • Prepares required reports; presents reports and evidence at Hearings Examiner and court hearings.
  • Meets with individuals and citizen groups to discuss code requirements, violations, and solutions to gain compliance.
  • Fosters culture of community involvement and assistance within neighborhoods and organizations.
  • Participates in the review and development of amendments to county codes, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the Code Enforcement program.
  • Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment in clean and orderly condition. 
Qualifications:
  • High school or vocational school graduation, or GED certificate.
  • 2-3 years of full-time field experience in planning, zoning or building code enforcement, law enforcement, or Animal Control, including experience involving direct contact with the public in inspection or enforcement areas
  • Applicants shall possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Applicants must be able to pass a background check including fingerprinting
